Connecting the Nations (CTN) specifically aims to address the issue of illiteracy with one person and one book at a time.
In Bolivia more than one million children over the age of 15 cannot read or write. At CTN we believe that giving children the educational tools at a young age will help promote their personal success later in life. The effects of poverty are prolific in developing nations; children are forced to work from a young age in Bolivia so their families may survive. This greatly hinders or eliminates the Bolivian children’s educational opportunities. On average children in the rural areas only remain in school 4.2 years, as compared to children in urban areas who are enrolled 9.4 years. CTN wishes to increase school retention rates for the rural Bolivian children, in hopes it will give them the tools necessary for them to succeed and have prosperous lives.
